The red pandas at Adelaide Zoo

When you visit Wang Wang and Funi, make sure you stop by and say hello to the red pandas. It’s easy to miss them if Funi is out and about as when you are at her enclosure you will find them directly behind you. Her antics may keep you so entertained you may not even [...]

A rare glimpse of the tiger

Whenever we visit Adelaide Zoo we always pop by to say hello to the Sumatran tigers. Apparently there are 3 there – Kemiri, Assiqua (both female) and Tuan (male). However, we rarely see them. If we’re lucky we may see them right at the back hiding behind foliage. So on our last visit I was [...]

A long awaited panda update!

Hi there! It’s been a very long time since I’ve updated my blog. Apologies for that. I’ve had a few visits to the pandas but to be honest they’ve been pretty quiet. Over winter we popped in to say hello and what I did notice was that a plastic barrier had been put up around [...]

Pandas aid general election

It’s a general election here in Australia next month. Now Wang Wang and Funi have been drawn in to select their preferred candidate. Each panda had pictures of Julia Gillard (Labor leader and current Prime Minister), Tony Abbott (Liberal Party leader) and Bob Brown (senator for the Green Party) displayed in their enclosure. Funi was [...]

My first visit was in December and amazingly we found ourselves at the front of the queue. We knew that they would not be outside, but were excited [...]

Official opening

So yesterday saw the official opening of Wang Wang and Funi’s new home at Adelaide Zoo. They were given a Buddhist ceremony, which they seemed to take in their stride. The enclosure was opened by the Governor-General Quentin Bryce and the Chinese Ambassador Zhang Junsai. Good to see Wang Wang and Funi weren’t sleeping for [...]

Funi and Wang Wang arrive

Now it’s time to get excited! The pandas are here in Adelaide! They arrived Saturday and seem to be settling in okay. I expect they felt right at home when they were greeted by the rain as well as life-size panda models and a sign welcoming them to Adelaide. Weird to think that as I [...]
